About This Drink
Wonderleaf is Siegfried's original non-alcoholic spirit, launched in 2018 as a direct companion to their Rheinland Dry Gin. Rheinland Distillers in Bonn built it on 18 botanicals — linden blossom, juniper, thyme, cardamom, ginger, lavender, bitter orange, angelica and cubeb pepper among them — dissolved into a base of water and citrus acid without any sugar, sweeteners or artificial flavours. The nose is led by linden blossom, which is gentler and more floral than the juniper-forward character of the alcoholic original. Citrus and lavender add some lift. On the palate it is light and clean — noticeably thinner than a gin, which it doesn't quite replicate, but it reads as deliberately botanical rather than sugary. At 2 kcal per 100ml and zero sugar, it is one of the most calorie-lean AF spirits available. In a G&T with good tonic it works well — the bitterness of the tonic fills in some of what the alcohol would normally do. It is less convincing neat or in spirit-forward cocktails. Worth keeping in the fridge once opened.
