Siegfried

The alcohol-free chapter started, somewhat accidentally, with an April Fool's post in 2016. The idea of a zero-ABV Siegfried was a joke, but the response was not. Vollmar and Koenen took note, spent a year and a half in development, and in August 2018 released Wonderleaf: the first German alcohol-free gin alternative, and one of the earliest serious AF spirits to come from a craft distillery. It uses the same 18 botanicals as the original gin, is vegan and sugar-free, and stands up convincingly in a G&T.

In 2020, Diageo's Distill Ventures took a minority stake in Rheinland Distillers, attracted partly by the brand's rare position of offering both a celebrated alcoholic gin and a credible no-alcohol alternative under the same roof.

The AF range has grown since. Wonderleaf Rosé adds softer, more delicate notes. Wonderspritz is a fruity bitter aperitif, the obvious answer to an alcohol-free Aperol occasion. Wonderazul came in 2024 to mark the brand's tenth anniversary, an agave-inspired AF spirit designed for margaritas and Palomas; it arrived already with a gold medal from the Spirits Business Low & No Masters. Most recently, Wylda occupies a different territory entirely: a functional distillate that skips alcohol but includes adaptogenic botanicals, caffeine, magnesium and B6 for people who want their drink to do something.

Siegfried products are available across specialist AF retailers and selected stockists in the UK and Europe. The gin heritage shows in everything they produce.
