About This Drink
Wylda is a departure from Wonderleaf. Rather than approximating gin, it is positioned as a functional adult drink — a botanical concentrate fortified with vitamin B6, magnesium and a significant hit of caffeine. At 128mg per 100ml the caffeine content is four times the permitted level for ready-to-drink products, which is why Siegfried are explicit that it must be mixed in a 1:3 ratio with tonic water before drinking. The botanical formula centres on an "Urban Plant Formula" of six ingredients: maca, schisandra, ginseng, damiana, matcha and moringa. These are herbal and adaptogenic ingredients drawn from different food traditions, combined in a base of citrus and water with added natural flavouring and colouring. The resulting liquid, when diluted, has a herbal, slightly earthy flavour profile — drier and more mineral than Wonderleaf, with none of the fruity-floral character of the Rosé. It is a different category of product to most AF spirits — closer to a functional soft drink in intent than a cocktail base. If you find standard AF spirits unconvincing because they lack the kick that alcohol provides, Wylda's caffeine content is a reasonable alternative mechanism. It is not a substitute for gin in a martini, but in a long drink over ice it does something distinct.
