Spritz Aperitif
An alcohol-free spritz-style aperitif built on orange extract and bitter herbs, for when you want something that feels like the start of an Italian evening.
About This Drink
The Spritz Aperitif is Sir James 101's attempt at capturing the bittersweet aperitivo moment without prosecco or Campari in sight. It uses orange extract alongside a botanical blend of rosemary, sage, clove, and nutmeg to build some complexity, and a touch of quinine for bitterness. The colour comes from natural lemon and safflower extracts. On the palate it leans into the bitter-orange register, with the herbal notes coming through in the mid-palate rather than upfront. The finish is slightly bitter and dry by the standards of the range. At 12g sugar per 100ml the sweetness is present — this isn't a bone-dry aperitivo — but it is held in check by the bitterness more than most of the Sir James 101 lineup. Compared to something like Noughty's Sparkling Shiraz or a full AF Aperol substitute, this is lighter and less intense. But it works on its own terms: serve cold in a large wine glass with ice and a slice of orange, and it delivers the visual and flavour cues of a spritz hour with reasonable conviction. At 38 kcal per 100ml, it is among the lighter options in the aperitivo-style category.
