About This Drink
Sober Spirits' gin starts as a French gin distilled to 60% ABV. It travels to Grasse, where the alcohol is carefully extracted at a distillery that has operated since 1875, the same facility used by Sober Spirits across their entire range. The extracted ethanol apparently finds a second life in perfumery, which is a nice detail. After de-alcoholisation, the liquid undergoes a second distillation in century-old copper pot stills with juniper, cardamom, and a selection of pine bark that amplifies the aromatic bouquet. The profile sits firmly in London Dry territory: dry and herbaceous, with juniper and cardamom taking the lead and a background note of bitter almond from the botanicals. At 36 calories per 100ml and zero sugar, it is amongst the cleaner options in the range. Sober Spirits positions it as a mixer, and it earns that: a G&T with good tonic is where this performs best. The botanical intensity holds up against mixer dilution better than many AF gins, which is largely down to the redistillation step.
