Amaro Falso
A non-alcoholic amaro built from 20 organic botanicals, barrel-aged and carbonated, served ready to drink from a can.
About This Drink
The production method here is genuinely interesting. Twenty organic herbs, spices, flowers, roots, and citrus are assembled without alcohol, then the liquid is aged in ex-bourbon barrels. That barrel time adds a faint warmth and a vanilla thread to what would otherwise be a purely herbal, bitter drink. Deep amber in the glass, with an aroma that opens on bitter orange and dried mint, earthy root notes sitting underneath. On the palate, gentian drives the bitterness while sweet spice and dried citrus peel add complexity. Fine carbonation and nitrogen give it body - more substantial than most AF bitter drinks. The finish is clean and bitter, with trace vanilla from the oak lingering at the end. It sits squarely in the amaro style rather than pretending to be something else. If you drink it expecting a soft drink you'll be puzzled; if you drink it expecting a bitter, aromatic digestif, it lands.
