About This Drink
Tennent's Zero arrived in 2020 as the alcohol-free version of what is arguably Scotland's most recognisable pint. Brewed at the Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow — one of Europe's oldest — it uses water drawn from Loch Katrine in the Trossachs and local Scottish barley malt. The process mirrors the standard Tennent's lager closely, with the alcohol removed afterwards. In the glass it pours a bright golden-orange with decent clarity and steady carbonation, though it builds minimal head. The flavour is malt-forward and cereal-led, with biscuity grain dominating rather than hops — the multiple hop varieties used (Herkules, Tettnang, and Aurora) are mostly quiet on the palate. Sweetness is present but restrained, and there's a faint stone fruit note alongside a mild bitterness in the finish. It's not a complex beer, but it's inoffensive and easy drinking. This is a solid option if you want something familiar in hand at a Scottish pub, festival, or family barbecue. It's widely available in UK supermarkets, so finding it isn't a challenge. Don't expect hop drama or depth; Tennent's Zero is built for accessibility, and on those terms it delivers.
