Counter Culture is a Bristol-based alcohol-free kombucha brand, founded in 2021 and structured so that 51% of its shares are donated to non-profit causes. The brand was co-founded by Tom Smart and Harry McDowell from a shared curiosity about alcohol's place in social lives and a search for drinks that offered something equally satisfying.

Every batch is naturally fermented at Counter Culture's carbon-neutral fermentary in Bedminster, Bristol, using organic green tea and the brand's own kombucha culture. Small-batch production keeps the process consistent, and the resulting kombucha sodas contain live probiotic cultures. The drinks are shelf-stable and can be stored ambiently for up to 12 months.

Counter Culture describes its commercial model as "commercially compassionate". The founders donated 51% of the company's shares to non-profits, and the business is working toward raising £1 million for charity through its CC Shares initiative. Two charity partners benefit from this structure, and Counter Culture works with Planet Zero to calculate, offset, and reduce its emissions, operating as a carbon-neutral business.

The brand is the Official Kombucha of the Dry January challenge and sits within the sober-curious drinking occasion, offering alcohol-free options for those rethinking when and how they drink. The label artwork across the range is designed by Bristol-based graphic designer Marta Zubieta.
