Charles Rolls and Tim Warrillow founded the company after observing that premium spirits were being paired with mixers that did not match their quality. The mixer category had failed to keep pace with the provenance-led expectations of consumers increasingly attentive to ingredient origin. Fever-Tree was built to close that gap, sourcing botanicals and flavour components with the same rigour applied to the spirits they accompany. Fevertree Drinks PLC is publicly listed on the London Stock Exchange AIM market, an unusual financial structure for a brand that occupies the premium mixer category.

The brand name traces back to the Cinchona tree, the botanical source of quinine, which takes its colloquial name from the fever-reducing reputation of quinine-bearing bark. That ingredient heritage shapes the AF range directly: the cocktail formats draw on bitter orange, cinchona bark, and the brand's signature tonic botanicals to create ready-to-serve options that sit closer to a full cocktail than to a mixer on its own.

Fever-Tree entered the alcohol-free category in 2024 as a deliberate response to the sober-curious market, rather than as a full repositioning of the core business. The mixer range remains the company's primary commercial identity, but the AF cocktail line gives it a presence in a category where finished, ready-to-drink options are increasingly sought by consumers who want an occasion-appropriate serve without building a drink from scratch. Distribution is broad, with the range stocked across mainstream supermarkets and available through online channels, reflecting the company's established retail relationships.

The 2024 launch positions Fever-Tree as one of the few premium mixer brands to have crossed into the AF RTD segment, bringing established botanical sourcing expertise to a category otherwise dominated by purpose-built AF producers.
