Heineken
Heineken is a Dutch lager brand founded in Amsterdam in 1873, tracing its origins to 15 February 1864 when Gerard Adriaan Heineken purchased the De Hooiberg brewery in the city. In 1886 the company developed its A-yeast strain, used for consistent bottom-fermented lager production. The original Amsterdam brewery closed in 1988 and now operates as the Heineken Experience museum, while production has run from a facility in Zoeterwoude, South Holland, since 1975.
Heineken N.V. is headquartered in Amsterdam and operates 167 breweries across more than 70 countries. Beer is sold in 192 countries as of 2022, and the company produces more than 500 beer and cider brands, making it the number one brewer in Europe and the world's second-largest brewer by volume. Alfred Heineken, grandson of founder Gerard Adriaan Heineken, served as chairman from 1971. Heineken acquired Amstel Brewery in 1968, the Murphy's brewery in 1983, and Scottish & Newcastle's operations in 2008. In 2010, the company acquired the beer operations of FEMSA. It also holds a 30% stake in Paulaner Brauerei Gruppe and has owned Affligem since 2013. Heineken employs over 85,000 people worldwide.
The company's alcohol-free range is positioned as the world's top alcohol-free beer brand, backed by the '0.0 Reasons Needed' campaign. The range spans an alcohol-free lager and fruit beer varieties, catering to sober-curious drinkers. Heineken holds global partnerships with Formula 1 and UEFA competitions.
