Sonja Mitchell spent nearly a year perfecting her first beer before launching Jump Ship Brewing in December 2019. The Edinburgh-based brewery became Scotland's first dedicated alcohol-free operation, born from Mitchell's frustration with the lacklustre options available when she wanted good beer without the next-day consequences. After years of juggling work and family, she wanted quality craft beer she could enjoy freely. Nothing on the market measured up, so she jumped ship from her day job to brew her own.

The nautical branding reflects Mitchell's love of sailing, but there's substance behind the seaside aesthetic. Jump Ship brews exclusively at 0.5% ABV or below, designing recipes specifically for low alcohol rather than stripping it out afterwards. Every beer is vegan and gluten-free as standard, broadening the appeal for drinkers with dietary requirements.

The core fleet covers solid ground. Yardarm is a clean, crisp lager that became their flagship after winning recognition at the World Beer Awards. Jackstaff delivers hop-forward IPA character with enough bitterness to satisfy proper hopheads. Steamboat brings hazy pale ale tropical notes with a smooth, approachable finish. Stoker's Stout offers roasted depth with coffee and chocolate undertones, picking up top honours at the Scottish Beer Awards. Seasonal releases and limited editions keep the range fresh for regulars.

What sets Jump Ship apart is the combination of craft credibility and ethical commitment. The brewery donates a portion of profits to charity and takes environmental responsibility seriously across its operations. Moving into their own dedicated brewery in early 2024 marked a significant milestone, graduating from contract brewing to full production independence.
