Niets
Niets is a Belgian alcohol-free gin distillery, founded in 1898 in Brussels, producing spirits at 0.0% ABV through three distinct methods: distillation, dealcoholisation, and maceration.
The distillery was founded by entrepreneur Alexandre Hauben, with its first batch totalling 300 litres. Its methods draw on a century-old distillation technique; each spirit is distilled rather than blended and bottled in Belgium.
The range reflects all three production approaches. Distilled spirits are produced through a seven-day triple distillation and cold botanical extraction process, working with botanicals including juniper. A barrel-aged dark spirit is made through dealcoholisation, a process in which the spirit is distilled at full strength and the alcohol then removed, before re-ageing in oak for five months in medium-charred barrels, incorporating vanilla from Madagascar, cloves from Maluku, and nutmeg from the Banda Islands; this is the world's first alcohol-free barrel-aged dark spirit. A third category, an aperitivo made with Italian oranges, was developed over two years by Niets' Master Distiller in Bergamo, Italy; it is macerated, meaning the botanicals are steeped in a liquid base rather than distilled, and contains no alcohol at any stage of production.
Niets launched in the United Kingdom, where its debut range is available through premium retail. Three of the brand's drinks have picked up awards, and Niets is part of the European mindful drinking movement.
