Nogne
Nøgne Ø is a Norwegian craft brewery founded in Grimstad, southern Norway, in 2002, whose name translates as "Naked Isle", a phrase taken from the poem Terje Vigen by Henrik Ibsen.
The brewery was established by Gunnar Wiig and Kjetil Jikiun, both home brewers, and was the first brewery to introduce IPAs, Porters, and Pale Ales to Norway. Now one of Norway's leading craft breweries, Nøgne Ø produces more than 30 different styles of ales using unpasteurised recipes that incorporate wild yeast. Operating as a microbrewery with around 10 employees, it moved to new facilities in Grimstad in June 2017, and by 2021 annual production had reached 20,000 hectolitres. Nøgne Ø also distributes Weihenstephaner beers in Norway. A majority share was acquired by Hansa Borg Bryggerier in November 2013, and the brewery exports to more than 40 markets.
For several years, Nøgne Ø also operated as the first sake brewery in Europe; sake production ceased in March 2018.
Nøgne Ø's alcohol-free range covers ales and IPAs. The range suits sober-curious drinkers looking for craft-style beers without alcohol. One of its styles is produced by taking a classic blonde beer and adding freshly squeezed lime juice.
