SportZot Blonde
A 0.4% Belgian blonde from De Halve Maan brewery in Bruges, made by filtering the alcohol from Brugse Zot Blond using a natural dealcoholisation process.
About This Drink
SportZot takes the base of Brugse Zot Blond — the brewery's flagship single-style Belgian blonde — and runs it through a dealcoholisation process that the brewery claims preserves the original flavour profile. Whether that holds fully at 0.4% is debatable, but it's a more convincing starting point than beers brewed specifically for low ABV from the ground up. The appearance is a bright, clear golden with lively fine carbonation. The aroma is fruity and spiced, with a yeasty backbone that's characteristic of Belgian blonde styles — orange peel, light clove, and a soft cereal note. On the palate it's malt-forward with a balanced hop bitterness and a delicate, slightly dry finish. It's not as full-bodied as the parent beer, but the character is recognisably Belgian in a way many AF beers fail to achieve. It was awarded a gold medal at the World Beer Awards in 2024, which is a reasonable indicator of quality in the category. Available through specialist AF retailers. If you're specifically after Belgian blonde character without the alcohol, it's one of the better options on the market.
