About This Drink
Tall Tales Zero is Butcombe's AF version of their Tall Tales Pale Ale, and it's a decent one. The hop profile goes tropical and citrus-forward — grapefruit and pineapple lead, with mango and passion fruit behind — which is the right approach for a 0.5% pale ale where the malt isn't doing heavy lifting. The biscuit malt base is present and balanced without getting in the way of the hops. It won a gold at the Taste of the West awards alongside the full-strength version, which suggests the flavour translation between the two is at least credible. At 23 calories per 100ml and 0.6g sugar per 100ml it's one of the lower-sugar options in the AF pale ale category. Vegan-friendly and available in 330ml bottles. Distribution has been through specialist retailers and the brewery's own online shop, though it's also been stocked by Morrisons at times. Worth trying if you're specifically after a tropical pale ale style without the alcohol.
