AmarNo
A 0.5% non-alcoholic Italian amaro from Dr Zero Zero made with digestive botanicals including sage, wormwood, quassia, Chinese rhubarb, and orange — Gold Medal winner at the International Wine and Spirits Competition 2024.
About This Drink
Dr Zero Zero is an Italian brand making AF spirits that take the bitter digestif tradition seriously. AmarNo is their flagship: a non-alcoholic amaro built from the same botanical framework as the alcoholic original, with wormwood-led bitterness, sage, quassia, Chinese rhubarb root, orange and caramelised sugar. The result is genuinely complex in a way that most AF spirits fail to be. The nose opens with root beer and cola character — sarsaparilla, rhubarb and cloves — before sweet orange moves in. There's a mild wormwood bitterness that runs through the whole thing, with persistent clove notes and Dutch cocoa coming through as it opens in the glass. The body is thinner than an alcoholic amaro, which is the main tell, and it's best served ice cold to mask this. On the rocks it works well; at room temperature you notice the thinness more. It received a Gold Medal at the 2024 International Wine and Spirits Competition with a score of 97/100, which is a strong result for the category. Available in 700ml bottles. Makes a credible substitute for Campari or Aperol in bitter cocktails and works as an after-dinner pour for anyone who wants the digestif ritual without the alcohol.
