About This Drink
Sagres is the dominant lager brand in Portugal, and their 0.0 is positioned as a straightforward alcohol-free version for the domestic and export market. It is brewed on a grain bill of 60% malt and 40% wheat, which gives it a slight Weissbier character and reduces the wort-forward flavour that sometimes makes cheaper AF lagers taste unfinished. The result is light and notably fruity for a lager style — banana and light grain notes dominate, with a gentle hop bitterness to balance the sweetness. It is not a complex beer. The body is light and the carbonation is moderate. What it does well is land cleanly without the syrupy or tinny aftertaste that can plague AF lagers. At 25 calories per 100ml it sits among the lighter end of the AF beer spectrum. It has been available since 2019 and comes in 33cl bottles and cans. In the UK it turns up at Portuguese delis and specialist importers; less common in mainstream supermarkets than Sagres's alcoholic range.
