Scot Free Pale Ale
A 0.5% American-hopped pale ale from Stewart Brewing, with Mosaic, Simcoe, and Citra bringing citrus, pine, and tropical character.
About This Drink
Scot Free Pale is the more interesting of Stewart's two AF offerings. Where the lager is a traditional template executed cleanly, the pale ale puts its energy into the hop bill: Mosaic, Simcoe, and Citra. That trio does predictable things in the best sense - tropical fruit, citrus peel, pine resin, a bold resinous quality that American hops do reliably well. The beer sits at 9 IBU, which is still on the gentle side but more present than the lager. The Scottish malt base provides some sweetness to balance the hop character. On the palate the citrus and tropical notes lead, the pine resin character adds texture, and the bitterness is modest rather than sharp. For 0.5%, it has genuine hop flavour. Gluten free and vegan, it is one of the more flavour-forward options in the low-alcohol pale ale category at its price point. Available in 330ml and 440ml cans.
