Hard Pour Coffee Nitro Stout
A nitrogen-infused alcohol-free coffee stout from Utrecht, brewed with coffee and cacao alongside Sabro, Columbus and Magnum hops. Pour hard for the full cascade effect.
About This Drink
The name is the instruction. Vandestreek tell you to pour it vigorously, straight into the middle of the glass, so the nitrogen does its job and the creamy tan head builds properly. It's the same trick as a Guinness widget, but the nitrogen is infused directly during canning rather than released from a plastic widget. The beer itself is built on roasted barley malt with coffee and cacao added for character. Sabro, Columbus and Magnum hops provide structure without getting in the way of the dark ingredients. The aroma is bready and gentle, with mild cocoa rather than sharp roasted espresso -- softer than the name suggests. On the palate, light chocolate and mild coffee sit over a smooth, easy-drinking base. The nitro does its work on mouthfeel, giving the body a creaminess that's hard to achieve without it. The finish is smooth and soft. This isn't a beer that shouts its coffee character; it leans more toward a subtle cocoa warmth than an aggressive cold brew hit. For an alcohol-free nitro stout, the texture is the main event, and that part holds up.
