About This Drink
Versin is made in Andalucia by Industrias Espadafor, a Spanish company that produces a range of alcohol-free alternatives to classic aperitif drinks. The red version takes its character from grape must rather than wine, then adds botanicals in the vermouth tradition: cloves, cinnamon, ginger and citrus among them, producing the layered sweetness and aromatic spice that makes vermouth useful in a glass. At 0.0% it is fully alcohol-free, sold in a 1 litre bottle at a price point that makes it sensible for home mixing. The flavour runs toward the sweeter, fruit-forward style of Italian rosso vermouth rather than a dry French style -- dark fruit on the palate, warm spice in the background, with a bitter edge that provides structure and stops it tasting like cordial. It is best served well chilled over ice, either neat or lengthened with soda. As a mixer it works anywhere a red vermouth would, including alcohol-free Negroni builds alongside a non-alcoholic gin and bitter aperitif. Gluten-free.
