About This Drink
Amaretto ADRIATICO launched its alcoholic version to critical attention, and when the brand set out to make a non-alcoholic version they didn't just reformulate — they rethought the whole category. The standard knock against NA amarettos is that without alcohol the sweetness overwhelms everything. Adriatico addressed this by using raw cane sugar at roughly half the usual concentration, and by adding a pinch of sea salt from the Adriatic to keep the balance in check. The base is a distillate of roasted almonds sourced from Puglia. The result is a spirit that genuinely smells and tastes like amaretto — bitter almond, caramel, cherry, a thread of vanilla — without the sticky, one-note sweetness that can make standard amarettos difficult to work with in drinks. It's vegan certified and noticeably less viscous than its alcoholic counterpart, which actually helps in cocktail applications. An alcohol-free Amaretto Sour is the obvious use case, but it also does well over ice with tonic water. Available at The Whisky Exchange and specialist spirits retailers.
