About This Drink
Fassbrause is a German style that A. Le Coq has adopted for its non-alcoholic range: part beer, part juice, all fizz. The Cherry version is half alcohol-free beer and half water and cherry juice, with a small shot of thyme extract and carrot concentrate adding a faint herbal complexity behind the fruit. At 31 kcal per 100ml and 5.8g of sugar, it sits well below most fruit-flavoured soft drinks on both counts. The beer base brings a light grain character and hop bitterness that stops it tasting like a straightforward cordial. The cherry is present but not syrupy - more tart than sweet, with the carbonation keeping things lively. A. Le Coq adds B vitamins (B6, B12, B5, B7) across the Fassbrause range, which puts it in the functional drinks category without being preachy about it. It's a credible mid-afternoon option - more interesting than sparkling water, less sweet than most alternatives. Available in a 500ml bottle.
