Tidebreaker West Coast Ale

A bold, alcohol-free West Coast ale from Bristol's Wiper and True, built on a rye and Caramalt malt base with assertive hop bitterness.

About This Drink

Wiper and True have been making award-winning beers out of Bristol since 2012, and their alcohol-free range has matured into something genuinely considered. Tidebreaker takes the West Coast ale template — bitter, hop-forward, drier than a pale ale — and works hard to preserve that character through the dealcoholisation process. The malt bill is where the interest lies. Rye and Caramalt sit alongside extra pale barley, giving the beer a spiciness and caramel depth that most AF West Coast ales lack. American hops bring pine and citrus bitterness to the front, and the rye provides a dry, lingering edge to the finish that saves it from the faint sweetness that plagues lesser dealcoholised beers. It's unfiltered, so pour gently unless you want a cloudier glass. Kaleidoscope, their flagship alcohol-free ale, tends to get more attention — it's won awards — but Tidebreaker is the better option for anyone who specifically wants bitterness and a drier character. Available direct from the brewery and through specialist AF retailers.
