The Shore Leave series is where JumpShip gets seasonal. Rhubarb & Ginger Pale Ale uses 40kg of fresh rhubarb sourced from Scarlett's Farms in Perthshire, paired with freshly-peeled ginger. Neither ingredient arrives as an extract or concentrate — this is ingredient-forward brewing in the proper sense. It drinks as a pale ale first and a fruit beer second. The rhubarb brings tartness and a slightly vegetal note that's very true to the actual ingredient — it doesn't taste like rhubarb crumble, it tastes like rhubarb. The ginger is warm and clean underneath. At 40 calories and 1g of sugar per 330ml can, it's also one of the lightest in the JumpShip range. Seasonal availability means it doesn't stick around. Reviews suggest it splits opinion — those expecting something sweeter are sometimes caught out — but drinkers who like honest, herbaceous beer tend to rate it well.
