About This Drink
Figlia was founded in New York to plug a specific gap: a genuinely interesting non-alcoholic aperitivo that could hold its own in a spritz. Fiore ("flower" in Italian) is the original in their range, and it's built around bitter orange — the key botanical in Campari and Aperol territory, though Figlia is its own thing rather than a direct substitute. Bitter orange rind forms the backbone, and it's properly bitter, not candy-sweet. Rose extract threads through it without dominating; this doesn't taste floral in a cloying way. Clove and ginger add spice depth, while chamomile and lemon balm keep the whole thing from getting too angular. Black currant juice concentrate in the base gives a deeper, darker quality to the colour and adds a faint berry note. The ingredients list is clean — no added sugars, no preservatives, grape juice concentrate as the base. Serve over ice with tonic or soda, with an orange peel twist. At $43 a bottle it's a premium product, and the flavour supports that. For anyone building AF cocktails that need the complexity of a classic aperitivo without leaning on Campari, Fiore is worth knowing about.
