About This Drink
Iford Cider is based on the Iford Estate, seven miles south of Bath in the border country between Somerset, Wiltshire and Avon. The estate has ancient wild orchards that were largely forgotten until Iford started reviving them, blending fruit from those trees with bittersweet cider apples sourced from other local growers. Their approach is straightforward: fresh juice, wild fermentation using only the native yeasts on the fruit itself, and nothing artificial. Wild + Free takes that same approach and removes the alcohol entirely. It is a 0.0% cider built on fresh-pressed apple juice, wild fermented rather than built from base wine or dealcoholised kit, which puts it in a different category to most alcohol-free ciders. Expect a genuinely cloudy, fruit-forward pour with the kind of natural apple character that comes from real bittersweet varieties rather than dessert fruit. The wild fermentation route adds complexity and a gentle lactic edge that you don't get from ciders made to a formula. It is vegan and gluten-free, and comes in 440ml cans. The absence of concentrates or additives means the flavour sits closer to proper traditional cider than the sweetened, pasteurised alternatives that dominate the no-alcohol shelf. Worth tracking down if you want a 0% cider that actually tastes like it started with apples.
