About This Drink
Hepworth Brewery has been operating out of Horsham since 2001, and has form with lower-alcohol beers — so this collaboration with M&S is less of a box-ticking exercise than it might first appear. The head brewer selected the hops and malts, then added agave inulin and agave syrup as a structural tool, which is a reasonably common trick for adding mouthfeel and a touch of sweetness when alcohol isn't there to do that work. The result is a lager with a hoppy aroma and a crisp, clean finish. It won't challenge drinkers looking for complexity: at 9 kcal per 100ml and 0.4g sugar, there's not a lot going on flavour-wise, and the agave contribution is subtle at most. Online reviews are fairly blunt about the thinness. But it is crisp, cold-natured, and does what a session lager is supposed to do in format terms. Contains gluten from the malted barley, but confirmed vegan. Available in M&S stores in a 330ml can.
