About This Drink
Frizzantea is M&S's take on a format that's been quietly gaining ground in the AF world: sparkling tea. Rather than starting with grape juice and removing the alcohol, this one begins with Darjeeling tea — black tea from the Indian hills — and ferments it gently over several weeks until it develops a light fizz and an unexpected complexity. The result is pale gold in the glass with fine persistent bubbles. Peach and blackcurrant are the headline flavours, which sounds like marketing language but actually lands: the fermentation process draws stone fruit and dark berry character out of the tea in a way that feels organic rather than added. There's a slight tannin grip from the tea itself that gives it structure, and a clean, dryish finish. At 0.5% ABV it's low-alcohol rather than truly alcohol-free, and it's vegan-friendly. M&S sells it in a 75cl format, which makes it work well as a dinner table pour. It won't satisfy anyone wanting something wine-adjacent, but on its own terms it's genuinely interesting — a different kind of fizz that earns its place on the shelf.
