Fresh White Wine Tonic

The white counterpart to Zeronic's Fancy Red: Austrian Grüner Veltliner dealcoholised and blended with a quinine-free apricot tonic, coming in at 0.0% ABV.

About This Drink

Grüner Veltliner and apricot is a pairing that makes immediate sense — the variety's dry, herbal character works with stone fruit without being overwhelmed by it. This is the same Zeronic Fresh White available via Dry Drinker in 6-pack format and as a single 330ml can from The Alcohol Free Co. The tonic is bespoke, using quassia wood extract for bitterness rather than quinine, and the base wine comes from Heribert Bayer's Burgenland winery. In the glass it's pale straw, lively with carbonation. The Grüner's lemon zest and white pepper character comes through underneath the apricot, which keeps things in a drier register than you might expect from the name. The ingredients are clean and straightforward: dealcoholised white wine, concentrated grape must, natural flavouring, citric acid, carbon dioxide, sulphites. Vegan, fully alcohol-free. It works well as an aperitif. Lighter than still water alternatives by virtue of the wine structure, and more interesting than most canned AF options because the Grüner adds genuine variety character rather than generic white wine flavour.
