Surely
Ryan Hanson launched Surely in late 2020 after spending three years alcohol-free and finding that most non-alcoholic wine was, frankly, not worth drinking. Based in California, the brand set out to prove that dealcoholised wine could hold its own as a proper drink rather than a reluctant substitute.
The process starts with real wine made from California grapes, the alcohol is then removed, and small amounts of juice are blended back in to restore aromatics and round out the palate. It's a more considered approach than the grape juice-adjacent alternatives that dominated early in the category.
The range covers the main bases: Sparkling Brut, Sparkling Rosé, and Bubbly Red are the core products, alongside a Sauvignon Blanc and a Red Blend. The sparkling wines come in both bottles and cans, which makes them practical for occasions where a full bottle would be excessive. The Bubbly Red, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir grapes, has attracted particular attention as one of the few convincing non-alcoholic red sparkling options available. Tasting notes run to dark cherry, plum and blackberry, with real body rather than the watery finish that plagues lesser dealcoholised reds.
All products sit under 0.5% ABV. Calorie counts are low across the range, and the wines are gluten-free and vegan.
Surely has grown quickly since launch. The brand is sold direct through its own website as well as through major US retailers including Target, Sprouts, and Total Wine, and has picked up competition medals along the way. UK availability is limited; this is primarily a US brand, so buyers outside North America will likely need to look at specialist AF wine importers or pay international shipping costs.
