Zeno
Zeno is a Spanish alcohol-free wine brand founded by David Hodgson and Will Willis, producing wines from single-estate organic vines in central Spain and removing the alcohol through low temperature, high vacuum distillation, a form of dealcoholisation that draws off alcohol under vacuum at a reduced temperature.
The brand's founding story begins with a snowy taxi ride home from a wine trade show in Helsinki. David Hodgson, who holds an MBA and spent 25 years working in traditional wine, launched Zeno through the overlapping pressures of COVID, Brexit, and an alcohol-free wine category that was still in its early stages. Will Willis, a wine trade professional, was involved from the outset, and Master of Wine Jane Masters MW was part of the brand's development. The team operates under the name Wines of Virtue. Zeno works with a partner winery in Spain, and all wines begin in organically farmed single-estate vineyards in central Spain.
The range covers still and sparkling wines, drawing on grape varieties including Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Bobal, Macabeo and Garnacha from Spanish wine regions. Two of the brand's wines have picked up awards.
Zeno is aimed at wine lovers who value wellness and balance, and at those who choose not to drink alcohol on a particular occasion. The brand is not recommended for under 18s, and its wines are available through multiple retail channels.
