Provence Rosé
A 0% Provence rosé from Château de la Galinière — an organically certified estate near Aix-en-Provence — dealcoholised using night-harvested fruit to preserve maximum freshness.
About This Drink
Château de la Galinière sits at the foot of the Cengle plateau near Aix-en-Provence, 40 hectares of certified organic vineyard on clay-sandy soils with a bauxite-rich subsoil. The Sensation range is their 0% line: a still rosé (and a sparkling version) made from the same grapes as their conventionally fermented wines. The process here is more considered than most supermarket AF wine. Grapes are harvested at night to capture maximum aromatics and freshness before the heat of the Provençal day sets in. The wine is then dealcoholised using state-of-the-art technology — precise, low-impact removal rather than a crude boiling-off process. In the glass it pours a brilliant pale pink with peach reflections. The nose delivers citrus — grapefruit is most prominent — alongside exotic fruit and the aromatic herbs (boxwood, garrigue) that are characteristic of the Mediterranean scrubland surrounding the estate. On the palate it has the freshness the night harvesting was designed to protect. This is one of the more terroir-expressive dealcoholised rosés available, for which the organic farming and careful process are both worth crediting.
