Terroir Riesling Kalkstein
An alcohol-free Riesling from Germany's Pfalz, made with grapes grown on limestone soils and dealcoholised using gentle vacuum extraction.
About This Drink
Riesling is a grape variety where terroir matters. The Kalkstein - limestone - soils of the Pfalz force vine roots to go deep, and the resulting wines tend to have the mineral finesse the variety is known for. This alcohol-free version aims to preserve that character through gentle vacuum extraction at low temperatures, a method that strips the alcohol without the aggressive heat that can flatten a wine's aromatics. On the nose you get citrus, red apple, and ripe pear, with a faint mineral edge. The palate has the characteristic acid structure of Riesling, though at 44g/l residual sugar it sits in sweeter territory. The finish is harmonious and clean, with the limestone mineral quality coming through. For an alcohol-free white wine, it is a more thoughtful product than most in the category. It does not pretend to be a dry Riesling, and the sweetness is managed well. Vegan and produced in the Pfalz, Germany. Under 0.05% ABV.
