Alien Form Fruity IPA
A 0.5% Fruity IPA from Alloa's Williams Bros., biotransformed with Thiolised yeast and hopped with Cascade, Citra, Mosaic, Amarillo, Sabro and Galaxy for maximum tropical character.
About This Drink
Six hops is a lot for any IPA, and for an alcohol-free one it's a statement of intent. Williams Bros. use Thiolised yeast in Alien Form, the same approach as their Joker AF IPA: the yeast strain releases additional fruit thiols during fermentation, unlocking tropical character that would otherwise need alcohol as a carrier. The result is that you get more fruit from the hops than the ABV would normally allow. Galaxy and Sabro push toward tropical -- passionfruit, coconut and citrus. Amarillo adds orange and floral character. Mosaic, Citra and Cascade fill in the gaps with mango, grapefruit pith and resinous pine. The grain bill of barley, wheat and oats gives the beer a degree of softness without going full NEIPA. It pours pale gold and is broadly clear rather than opaque. The bitterness is bitter-sweet rather than aggressive, and the fruit character is the main draw. At 500ml cans it's a generous pour, and the beer holds up well enough across the length of the can. Vegan.
