About This Drink
WALT LØ is a collaboration between Villa Wolf — the Pfalz estate run by renowned Mosel producer Ernst Loosen — and Walter S. Siegel, the German wine specialist that has been importing into the UK since 1887. The grapes are 100% Riesling, fermented in stainless steel, then put through a dealcoholisation process that brings the ABV down to 0.5%. What comes through is recognisably Riesling: there's a streak of lime, some crunchy green apple, and a thread of mineral acidity running through the whole thing. The nose carries that faint petrol note that dedicated Riesling drinkers actually seek out. The finish is dry and reasonably long — not hollow in the way many dealcoholised whites can be. It's lean and direct, without sweetness padding it out. Available from UK specialist merchants and a handful of independent wine shops, this sits in the "low-alcohol" bracket rather than fully alcohol-free. Worth knowing if that matters to you, but at 0.5% it's in the same territory as many AF products.
