Mulled Wine
A 0% mulled winter punch from Three Mills in Norfolk, blending red berry fruit with orange, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove — serve warm.
About This Drink
Three Mills has been making wine at its Norfolk site for over fifty years, and the Mulled Winter Punch is something of a seasonal outlier in the range. It is not dealcoholised wine — it is a non-alcoholic drink built from concentrated grape juice, natural spice flavours and a handful of functional ingredients, designed entirely to be heated and served in a mug. Simple enough concept, and the execution is honest about what it is. The flavour profile is classic mulled wine territory: dark berry fruit, orange peel, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. The spice is genuine rather than synthetic-smelling, and the grape juice base gives it enough body to hold together when warm. It is sweeter than most alcoholic mulled wines — maltodextrin and glycerine are doing some structural work here — but the spice load balances that reasonably well. Not something you would drink cold. It is a solidly seasonal product, made with 100% renewable electricity at Broadland's BRC AA+ accredited winery and confirmed vegan. Available from Ocado and UK specialty retailers during the festive period. It covers the brief — a non-alcoholic warming drink for Christmas gatherings — without pretending to be anything more.
