Davidson plum is a small, intensely tart fruit native to the rainforests of eastern Australia. It's not a widely known ingredient outside the country, and Sobah's use of it here is one of the more unusual takes in the alcohol-free beer space. The base is a lightly soured gluten-free ale, brewed with a proprietary yeast strain that ferments without producing ethanol. The Davidson plum goes in post-fermentation. The result pours a hazy pink blush - striking in the glass. On the palate, there's tartness upfront with a musk note, light carbonation, and a subtle bitterness. The sourness is gentle rather than aggressive, and a faint sweetness rounds the finish without tipping into fruit juice territory. Vegan, preservative-free, and genuinely unlike most beers in this category.
