Waitrose
Waitrose is a British supermarket own-label brand producing a range of alcohol-free wines and RTD mocktails, sold exclusively through its own stores and online grocery platform. The retailer was founded in 1904 in Acton, West London, by Wallace Waite, Arthur Rose, and David Taylor, and today operates as the food retail arm of the John Lewis Partnership, the UK's largest employee-owned business, with over 300 shops across England, Scotland, Wales, and the Channel Islands.
The alcohol-free wine range, launched in 2019, is produced using spinning cone technology: a low-temperature method of separating alcohol from the finished wine while preserving its aromatic character. The grapes are sourced from Spain. Waitrose positions the wines as made from real wine rather than fruit juice blends, a distinction the brand makes explicitly. In 2023, the range was extended to include alcohol-free RTD mocktails spanning several cocktail styles.
Waitrose holds a Royal Warrant to supply groceries, wine, and spirits to King Charles III. The alcohol-free range is supermarket-exclusive, sits in the accessible price bracket typical of own-label, and targets sober-curious shoppers looking for familiar wine and cocktail formats at everyday pricing.
