Mikkeller

Mikkeller began as a gypsy brewery, paying other facilities to produce its beer rather than operating its own premises. Its primary production partner has been De Proefbrouwerij in Belgium, where the team worked for three years developing its alcohol-free beers. That collaboration produced Flemish Primitive, an alcohol-free beer style Mikkeller launched in February 2018. The brewery also uses its own proprietary yeast strain, mikkellensis.

Since those early years, Mikkeller has released around 2,000 different beers across a wide variety of styles, including barrel-aged stouts, spontaneous fermentations and hop-forward IPAs, with an annual output of 17,000 hectolitres. The brewery opened its first US facility in San Diego, California in April 2016, followed by a further location at Citi Field in New York City in 2017.

Mikkeller's beers reach 50 countries. The brand had approximately 35 locations worldwide as of December 2024, including brewpubs in Copenhagen and London, and bars in Taipei, Tórshavn and Zurich. It organises the Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen, its annual spring festival, and runs a network of more than 180 running clubs around the world, reflecting its reach among fitness-focused drinkers.
