About This Drink
Nine Meadows is a small Swiss producer working with botanicals from local farmers around Zurich. All five of their spirits are hand-distilled with no added sugar, and the Summer Sunset sits at the aperitif end of the range — positioned somewhere between a bitter orange liqueur and a floral spritz base. The botanical lineup here is fruit-forward and aromatic: bitter orange zest, basil, rhubarb, pink pepper, and pink grapefruit. On the nose it opens with the citrus and a clean herbal quality from the basil, then the rhubarb's sweetness comes through underneath. Pink pepper adds a mild warmth without edging into spice territory. The grapefruit keeps things lively and slightly tart at the finish. The bottle is recycled glass and the brand ships from Switzerland, so it is not a mainstream high-street purchase. Serve long with tonic water, or use it as the base for an alcohol-free Aperol Spritz-style build with non-alcoholic prosecco and an orange slice.
