About This Drink
Vilarnau is a cava producer from the Penedès region near Barcelona, part of the Gonzalez Byass portfolio. Their 0.0% sparkling white is made from Parellada and Macabeu — the same grape varieties that go into traditional cava — dealcoholised and certified organic. At 23 calories per 100ml, it's one of the lighter AF sparklers on the market. The wine pours pale yellow with fine, persistent bubbles. Apple and floral aromas dominate, with notes of verbena, elderflower and a subtle hint of fresh almond. On the palate it's fresh and creamy with good balance, and the finish lingers longer than most wines in this category manage. The organic certification adds credibility, and the Gonzalez Byass heritage means there's genuine winemaking rigour behind it. A reliable choice if you want something that feels like a proper aperitif. It shows up in a decent number of UK wine merchants and specialist AF retailers.
