Oddbird

Gürbüzer launched the brand initially under the name MRG Wines, rebranding to Oddbird in 2020. The brand's approach prioritises terroir and the quality of the base wine before any processing: grapes are sourced from Alsace, Languedoc-Roussillon, and Treviso, and wines are matured for up to 12 months before alcohol is removed. Most AF wine producers process their base wine much earlier in its development; Oddbird's extended maturation is a deliberate production decision intended to build greater complexity before dealcoholisation begins.

Alcohol is removed using a patented vacuum distillation method, which operates at low temperatures by reducing atmospheric pressure. Lowering the pressure lowers the boiling point of alcohol, allowing it to be separated from the wine without the higher temperatures that conventional distillation requires, preserving more of the wine's natural aromatic character. Oddbird describes this combination of extended maturation and low-temperature processing as central to the quality of the finished wines.

The range spans sparkling, still, and rosé styles alongside a Low Intervention organic series. The Low Intervention lineup, which includes a sparkling orange wine, is positioned by the brand as the world's first low-intervention organic alcohol-free wine, reflecting both the production approach and Oddbird's deliberate departure from conventional AF wine production. The portfolio is broad for a specialist AF wine label, covering accessible sparkling options and limited-release formats at the luxury end.

A collaboration with Porsche, involving a fine-dining drive-through concept serving exclusively alcohol-free wine, attracted significant international press coverage and placed Oddbird at an unusual intersection of premium food culture and the sober-curious movement. The brand is available through specialist alcohol-free retailers and mainstream online grocers, with the full range accessible directly through the brand's own site. Oddbird is established at the premium end of the AF wine market, with a profile that appeals to sober-curious drinkers who approach zero-alcohol wine as seriously as they would conventional wine.
