Oddbird

Gürbüzer, also a Master of Social Science, was inspired by her professional work with families affected by alcohol-related harm. Her founding ambition was to make the question "Do you want your wine with or without alcohol?" as common as asking whether someone wants milk in their coffee. Based in Gothenburg, the brand has grown to become the leading producer in the premium alcohol-free wine segment globally. Over ten million bottles have been sold, and Oddbird is now present in more than twenty markets across Europe, North America and Asia, with an expansion into the United States in 2024. Mehmet Gürbüzer serves as CEO, and the business is family-founded.

The wines draw on vineyards in France and Italy. Sourcing spans the Languedoc-Roussillon and Alsace regions of France and vineyards in Northern Italy. Grape varieties across the range include Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Tempranillo, Garganega, Vespaiola, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Gewürztraminer. Oddbird places high demands on its grape suppliers, and fermentation methods vary: some wines use spontaneous fermentation, others ferment in stainless steel vessels or concrete tanks, and some undergo skin contact over seven days. Oak ageing is not used. Wines are matured for up to twelve months before alcohol is removed through vacuum distillation, a low-temperature, aroma-preserving process carried out under a patented method. A research facility in Alsace supports production development. Finished wines contain no added e-substances, no artificial colours and no synthetic aromas.

Some releases take a low-intervention approach designed to reduce CO₂ emissions. The brand is stocked in Michelin-starred restaurants, and one of its wines has won awards. Oddbird is available through a broad retail footprint of more than a thousand locations worldwide, spanning specialist alcohol-free channels and mainstream grocery.
