Equinox Kombucha

The brand's origins trace back to a friend's kitchen in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, where the first batches were brewed. In 2015 that original space was flooded, and in 2016 the team set up their first official brewery and bottling plant. Equinox was one of the first commercial accredited kombucha breweries established in the UK.

Brewed in small batches, the kombucha is fermented using a SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast), a living culture that kickstarts fermentation of Chun-Mee green tea. Drinks are made with 100% natural ingredients including raw cane sugar, and the brand follows a unique brewing and blending process. The canned range is lightly pasteurised after fermentation, then has probiotics added back in, delivering 3 billion live cultures per can, including Bacillus Subtilis. The drinks are gut-friendly, making them a natural fit for wellness-focused drinkers and those keeping an eye on digestive health.

Beyond the core fermented tea range, Equinox produces an adaptogen-infused kombucha line incorporating botanicals including ashwagandha, tulsi (holy basil), ginseng, matcha, maca, and baobab. The brand also makes a coffee kombucha, fermented from a coffee base rather than tea. A collaboration with food writer Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and River Cottage produced a further range. All packaging is fully recyclable, and Equinox describes the wider business as planet positive.

Equinox Kombucha is based in Calder Valley, West Yorkshire, and is one of the most popular kombucha brands in the UK. Its drinks are available across seven countries in Northern Europe and Scandinavia, sold through mainstream supermarkets, specialist retailers, and directly from the brand's own site.
