Laine
Laine Brew Co is a Brighton-based brewery producing unfiltered, unpasteurised beers and an alcohol-free range, founded as a pub company in 1996.
The brand takes its name from a Sussex dialect term for the open farming lots that once surrounded Brighton, and the North Laine neighbourhood remains its spiritual home. Laine promotes its beers under the slogan "Brighton in a beer". Small-batch brewing began in 2012 at a five-barrel plant inside the North Laine pub, where the equipment can be viewed from the bar. In 2016 a 45-barrel production hub was established at Adversane near Billinghurst in West Sussex, and that same year the brewery arm made its first official releases. In 2022 Laine acquired Redchurch Brewery in Harlow, Essex. A sister brewery in Wandsworth opened in 2023, though brewing there is currently suspended.
Laine Brew Co was founded by Laine Pub Company, which operates 60 sites across Brighton, London and Birmingham. The wider group includes Punch Taverns and is owned by the investment company Patron. In addition to the main West Sussex site, the brewery maintains production at three of its pubs, and its beers are brewed for local bars including The Hope and Ruin. Laine runs more than 50 pubs across its network.
The brand targets Gen-Z drinkers, which it terms "Generation Laine". The brewery tried cask ale in its early days without success, and the range now spans pale ales, stouts and sour beers. Laine has installed solar panels to generate its own electricity and is a member of the 1% for the Planet scheme.
